Almost all the disruptive technologies which the industry is experiencing these days, be it block-chains, artificial intelligence or machine learning, have their roots embedded in creation of Knowledge Assets (KA). It would not be incorrect to state that knowledge assets facilitate these innovations. The current paper discusses the value of knowledge assets for the industry and identifies performance indicators impacted by knowledge management with special emphasis on financial performance by reviewing articles over the last three decades. The study identifies constructs that would be relevant to study creation of knowledge assets and their impact on organizational performance. It was also found that in the presence of enablers, process and implementation factors of KM, were found to be facilitators having a positive impact on organizational performance. These attributes were clearly visible in knowledge driven organizations. The findings are clearly indicative of the existence of a relationship between knowledge assets and performance. The paper would be relevant for researchers pursuing application of knowledge management to theory development and to the practitioners striving to find greater insights on the role of knowledge assets in organizational performance.
